             Dale Chihuly was born in Tacoma, Washington in 1941 and raised by his mother, Viola, after his father died of a massive heart attack. Dale's mother continued working hard to raise Dale and his brother George. Tragedy struck the Chihuly family again, later with the death of his brother, George, in a flight training accident in Florida.
           After graduating high school in Tacoma Dale Chihuly enrolled at the college of the Puget Sound in 1959. A year later he attended the University of Washington at Seattle where his work began with the study of interior design, architecture, and glass blowing. Chihuly fell in love with the art of glass blowing and was quickly noted as being highly talented in his works. It was 1967 when Dale Chihuly graduated with a Masters of Science in glass blowing from the University of Wisconsin and followed with a Masters of Fine Arts in sculpture from Rhode Island School of Design. At the Rhode Island School of Design, Chihuly also established the Glass Department in 1969 and continued as an instructor for the program until 1983. In the mean time Dale Chihuly also helped establish the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood, Washington in 1971, was awarded the Fulbright Fellowship to Murano, Italy in 1968, in 1975 was awarded the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship Artist-in-Residence, New York, NY, and again 1979 the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. In 1983, Dale Chihuly returned to his home state of Washington to continue his fine art glass works at the Pilchuck Glass School, which he helped found prior in 1971.                                                                                          
 

            Dale Chihuly is world renowned for his hundreds of awe-inspiring works. Imaculate pieces that exceed imagination and fill huge halls to small, delicate pieces twinkling in the  eye of the viewer. His Works are quite diverse and all have a magic unmatched by very few other works of art in this time or before. Chihuly's works have been credited to many aspects of his life, his family, home, travels, and marvels to all of the above. To mark Chihuly's outstanding creativity and true fine art, he has won numerous awards, grants, and exhibitions, has been the feature artist of many books, essays, and video specials. 
         Dale Chihuly truly is an artist of the people in that he works for his passion and his home. Most importantly it is nice that many can afford to bring a piece of such a renowned artist into their home by that Chihuly pieces can be found for reasonable purchase in several locations.
